Visualize and analyze potential new basement apartments in New York City
The Basement Apartment Mapping Tool is a free mapping tool built by Pratt Center for organizers, advocates, policymakers and other interested stakeholders to analyze the potential location of new basement and cellar units in neighborhoods across New York City.
The tool uses the zoning code regulations used in the current East New York Basement Apartment Conversion Pilot to identify homes beyond Brooklyn’s Community District 5 that could potentially convert their basement or cellar into affordable apartments. Users can compare housing opportunities alongside a number of demographic, environmental and community indicators.
*Please note that this tool is just a guide to the initial universe of homes that could be potentially able to create apartments. Deeper analysis of any one building is needed to ensure if can meet the required building code standards.
