Our People
Sadra Shahab is the GIS specialist at Pratt Center. Sadra provides GIS analysis and planning support to Pratt Center’s community planning and economic development projects. Prior to joining Pratt Center, he worked on several physical planning and preservation projects in his native country Iran. He has also served as a consultant to the Spatial Analysis and Visualization Initiative (SAVI) at Pratt and he has worked on projects at the NYC Department of Transportation and the NYC Office of Emergency Management.
As part of his responsibilities at Pratt Center, Sadra has helped Business Improvement Districts in Brooklyn to conduct survey of businesses in their area, create spatial and non-spatial databases and mapping their clients and customers locations and demographics.
He recently (December 2014) has created a city-wide neighborhood data portal using ArcGIS Online which provides the public with key housing indicators and other vital neighborhood information.
Since 2010, Sadra has worked with other Pratt Center staff to collect and analyze spatial data in support of affordable housing, transportation equity, and industrial retention advocacy projects around New York City.
Sadra regularly teaches AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, and MS Excel workshops to Pratt’s graduate planning students and has experience teaching GIS to undergrad architects, real estate agents, and other professionals. He is also a co-author of “Beyond Zuccotti Park: Freedom of Assembly and the Occupation of Public Space” edited by Ron Shiffman and published by New Village Press.
Sadra has an M.S in City and Regional Planning at Pratt Institute’s Programs for Sustainable Planning and Development and a B.S. in City Planning and Design from Sheikh Baha’i (SHBU) University in his hometown, Isfahan, Iran.
