As part of CHLDC's current Brownfield Opportunity Area project, Pratt Center analyzed the potential to sustain, expand, connect and "green" manufacturing in Cypress Hills, Brooklyn. Pratt's primary recommendation was to capitalize on local food production by building a "food ecosystem" that links growers, makers, distributors, packagers, and retailers throughout the area. The synergies position the CDC to redevelop brownfields and vacant manufacturing sites for food -related job creation. Secondary findings include opportunities to add jobs and improve the environmental performance of the area's metal fabricators and develop potential partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations who have experience developing real estate for manufacturing and advocating for industrial policy.
