Visualizing Data for Greater Impact: Neighborhood Data Portal Training
Over 90 participants attended Pratt Center's Neighborhood Data Portal training workshop on July 26th.
The free event held at Pratt Manhattan was part an ongoing training series which helps organizations and their staff maximize the Neighborhood Data Portal to map essential information and integrate that information into their program and campaign design, making it even easier for community groups, students, and others without access to expensive software to obtain essential information about their communities.
Created in 2016, the Portal is an online data mapping platform that integrates nearly three dozen vital datasets to break down NYC by the numbers. Equal and free access to essential information about local neighborhoods is fundamental for community-based planning and policy-making that advances a just city. The Neighborhood Data Portal helps to close the access gap by removing barriers caused by expensive GIS software, hardware and data or specific educational requirements to use those tools. The essential upgrades made to the portal give users, especially staff at community-based organizations, greater analytical control over the data they need to develop responsive, impactful programs and customize and share their work.
On July 26th, Pratt Center unveiled a new and improved version of the Neighborhood Data Portal mapping tool at a standing-room-only workshop for students, community-based practitioners and city agency staff.
