This report-out covers the key takeaways and salient points from two days of workshops and discussion about manufacturing in New York City, organized by five Brooklyn-based Community Development Corporations (CDCs) with technical assistance from Pratt Center. In April 2013, a diverse set of stakeholders came together to consider the future of industrial neighborhoods in north and central Brooklyn and identify strategies to encourage manufacturing business and job growth.

This report documents the ideas that came out of the convening, under the headings of: land use regulations; publicly-owned campuses and publicly-supported districts; managed spaces and incubators; workforce solutions; and finance opportunities. The report calls for a broad-based coalition to build a local industrial movement; for CDCs to play a larger role in industrial issues; and for the development of a public education campaign around today’s manufacturing.
